Last updated: 14 January 2025

Steve Hall trading as A Nonviolent God (www.anonviolentgod.co.uk) ("we," "us," or "our") respects user ("you" or "your") privacy and is committed to protecting your data as you use the "Website" through the following policy.

1. Information we collect

(a) The information you voluntarily give to us

When you communicate with us via a contact form, support email, or otherwise, we store a copy of these communications. We may also see information about you if you choose to interact or communicate with us via third-party social media sites.

(b) The information required to subscribe

To access premium content on A Nonviolent God, a free or paid subscription is required. We ask for your first and last name and your email address. We also ask for your payment information if you're choosing a paid subscription. We use this information to provide you with the requested service.

(c) Your payment information

Your payment information is stored by our payment partner, Stripe. Please see Stripe's Privacy Policy for how they store and use your personal data. We cannot see or access your payment information, only whether your payment has been successful or not.

(d) The information we collect when you login

We collect the date and time for the following activities: when you first subscribe, when you login to your account, and when you make changes to your account, subscription, or email preferences.

We also collect the approximate geographical location of where you're logging in from (for example, if you're based in London, we can see you are logging in from the United Kingdom).

In the background, your IP address is being collected by our content management system, Ghost, but this is not accessible by us.

(e) Who can access your data?

Only one person has access to the data stored in either our website building app, Ghost, or our payment partner, Stripe.

(f) How do we protect your data?

We take all reasonable measures to protect your data, from using strong, randomly-generated passwords on our accounts to two-factor authentication.

(g) We will not sell your data

We will not disclose, sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer any personal information, including your email address, to any third parties except when legally compelled to do so.

2. Cookies

(a) We only use essential cookies

Cookies are only used on A Nonviolent God when you sign in to your account. A cookie is required for you to stay "signed in" while navigating the Website and to access content on your free or paid Subscription plan.

(b) We do not use permanent cookies

You are required to re-login to your A Nonviolent God account after a certain period of time has elapsed to protect you against others accidentally accessing your account.

(c) We do not use tracking cookies of any kind

No advertising cookies. No analytics cookies. And no affiliate service cookies. Therefore, implementing a cookie notice on A Nonviolent God is not required as we are only using cookies essential for the Website to a function as a Subscription service.

(d) No analytics cookies

We only use privacy-friendly analytics. This means all the analytic data we collect is absolutely anonymously. Cookies are not used and no personal data is collected. There are no persistent identifiers. No cross-site or cross-device tracking either.

For more information, visit our analytics provider Plausible.

A Nonviolent God is not responsible for the cookie practices employed by third party websites or services embedded in, linked to, or linked from our website. Your interactions with any third-party website or service are subject to that third party’s own rules and policies.

3. Email communication

(a) Access emails

Logging in to your A Nonviolent God account is a password-less system. When you login, an email from "A Nonviolent God" with the subject line: "🔑 Secure sign in link for A Nonviolent God" is sent to the email inbox on your account. This email includes a sign in link you must click to login.

You cannot opt out of receiving access emails.

Occasionally, you will receive essential Service-related email communication from us. We keep service-related emails to an absolute minimum, and will not email you unless we are required to by law, or to fulfil our Terms of Use, or to notify you of a change to this Privacy Policy, or if it is essential for Website functionality (for example, regarding account verification, payment confirmation, and renewal reminders), or to inform you of important changes or service disruptions to the Website.

You cannot opt out of receiving service-related communications.

(c) Email newsletters

When you sign up as a Trial or Content Member, we will automatically subscribe you to two email newsletters. The first is our "New Articles" newsletter, sent every time a new article is published that is relevant to your membership tier. The second is our "Monthly Newsletter," sent on the last Sunday of every month.

(d) Unsubscribe from our newsletters at any time

You may unsubscribe at any time from any or all of our email newsletters using the "unsubscribe" link at the end of every newsletter or on the Website in your account page.

Unsubscribing from email subscriptions does not impact upon your membership or subscription plan, neither does it impact your receiving of access or service-related emails.

(e) We're not looking over your shoulder

We think looking over your shoulder to see if you read our emails is rude. It's entirely up to you whether you decide to open our emails or click on any links within them. We do not record that information.

4. Membership

(a) Closing your account

While we’ll be very sad to see you go, you can close your account if you no longer want to use our services. All you need to do, once you're logged in, is go to your account page, click the pink "Change" link and follow the instructions to cancel your subscription. Your subscription will end at the end of the current billing period.

(b) Request for personal data

You have the right to request access to your personal data held by A Nonviolent God, and to change and update those details. Please use the support email on your account page to request this.

You have the right to withdraw consent for us to hold your data at any time, and action will be taken to immediately delete it. Please be aware that by doing this will cancel any existing subscription.

5. Changes

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to your account email address or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
